First-ever at a vegan retreat · Texas & Michigan 2027
A DEXA scan is the gold standard for measuring body composition: fat, lean muscle and bone, region by region, in about ten minutes. Our partner Dexa Body is bringing its mobile scanning unit to both 2027 retreats, Texas and Michigan, parked right on the grounds so you can get scanned between sessions.
What your scan shows
Your total body fat percentage, broken down by arms, legs and trunk.
Muscle mass for each limb, so you can see imbalances between your left and right sides.
The deep abdominal fat around your organs that a mirror and a scale can't show you.
A bone mineral density reading, a useful baseline at any age.
How it works
Choose a time slot for your retreat and pay Dexa Body when you book. Slots are limited and go first come, first served.
The mobile unit is parked on the grounds. You lie still, fully clothed, while the scanner passes over you. Ten minutes, start to finish.
You get your full report from Dexa Body, with the technician on hand to explain what the numbers mean.
On the last morning, the Dexa Body technician hosts a Q&A table so you can talk through your results before you head home.
Michigan 2026
Dexa Body scanned more than 75 guests at our 2026 Michigan retreat. In 2027 it's coming to both retreats: Texas in March and Michigan in September.
We put ourselves to the test, too. Many of our doctors and speakers, the VWR founders and our crew get scanned right alongside you — the day before you arrive, same van, same ten minutes, same report. We’re not asking you to measure anything we don’t measure ourselves.

Scans are booked and paid through Dexa Body, our scanning partner. All scans are prepaid and non-refundable. HSA and FSA cards are accepted. Your retreat ticket is separate: secure your spot first if you haven't yet.
Good to know
Yes. A full-body DEXA scan gives off about the same radiation as an hour-long plane flight, or less. DEXA has an extremely safe track record, and the technology has been used in hospitals and research labs for more than 35 years.
No special clothing or preparation is required. Comfortable clothes are perfect; the technician will ask you to set aside anything metal, like keys or jewelry.
Your results go to you, from Dexa Body. Vegan Wellness Retreats only receives your booking details (your name and time slot), never your scan results.
Scans are prepaid and non-refundable. If you need a different time, contact Dexa Body and they'll do their best to move you to an open slot.
Yes. Dexa Body accepts HSA and FSA cards when you book.
Yes. Scanning happens on the retreat grounds and is available to registered 2027 guests.
